HMS RIVERSIDE

HMS Riverside has some furnished apartments in Mbarara, Uganda. The apartments are set up at the edge of town, near River Rwizi, a small river meandering between lovely hills and finally pouring its water into the swamps of Lake Mburo National Park. From the apartments there is a wonderful view over Rwizi valley.

On the river banks you find swamps with papyrus, eucalyptus trees and banana plantations. The HMS Riverside garden is quite big and is daily visited by a great variety of exotic birds, such as crested cranes, ibises, black and yellow-billed storks, weaver birds, sunbirds, guinea fouls, turacos, little parrots, double toothed barbets, mouse birds, fly catchers, and many others. Sometimes, when the river swells after heavy rains, a few hippos from Lake Mburo National Park decide to visit us and graze a bit in our garden.

Our apartments are fully furnished. They have a sitting room with a kitchenette, there is a fridge, a gas cooker, kitchen tools, furniture, etc. The bedroom has a double bed or 2 single beds, and mosquito nets. Each apartment has its own shower and toilet. Towels and bed sheets are provided. Prices are very reasonable. Costs for gas, light, and water (warm and cold), garbage disposal and guarding services (Fetso Security Team Ltd.) are included. Laundry services can be provided at a small cost. Meals (local and international dishes) can be provided on request. Those who prefer to cook for themselves find a great variety of fresh crops available at the local market.

The apartments are at a walking distance of about 5 minutes from the main hospital. To town center it is a walk of about 15 min. Local taxis (mopeds), special hire taxis or rental cars can be arranged for. The apartments are managed by a Ugandan-Dutch couple, Henry & Mirjam Ssenyonga.
